Obviously it’s a common complaint many people have about the game. On the other (phantom) hand, I was super disappointed with the “story”. On one hand, I thought the gameplay was brilliant and extremely satisfying. MGSV - speaking of! When this game came out I had such mixed feelings about it. And now I have a much deeper appreciation for the events and characters in MGSV. With the exception of the frustrating tank battles, I loved everything about this little game.

Obviously it still feels like a small scaled stripped down version of Metal Gear but all the right pieces are there and it works. It really feels like MGSV light in a way. Peace Walker is actually good! It shocked me.
MGSV SKULLS MUSIC SERIES
However, now that I’m all aboard the series hype train, I decided to finally give it a shot. Still, it wasn’t enough to convince me to play it (back in 2015 or 2016 - whenever Phantom Pain came out). However, after playing MGSV I realized that maybe it was more important that I gave it credit for. I always dismissed it as a side game since it came out on PSP. MGS PEACE WALKER - this was the only game in the bunch that I never played. I loved it back in 2008, haven’t played it since. MGS4 - sadly, with this game being stuck on ps3, I don’t have acces to it at the moment. The story, music, mission structure, all of it just amazing. This game is an absolute masterpiece and I can see myself going back to replay it in the near future. However, playing it this time around I absolutely gained a whole new appreciation for it and fell in love with MGS3. I didn’t like the survival aspects and I missed the more futuristic/modern settings. I thought it was a big departure for the series. To be honest, back in the day I wasn’t convinced. MGS3 - this is objectively the best game in the series according to most people (fans and critics alike). Will always have a soft spot for this title. And those last 30 minutes? Honestly perfection. His naivety added to the whole “recreating snake and shadow Moses” plot structure imo. Even Raiden was an enjoyable protagonist. It has my favorite version of Solid Snake across all the games. The tanker mission is STILL one of the best and most enjoyable and gaming experiences ever. But, I always appreciate the wackiness and charm this game had. I know it’s extremely divisive with most fans, especially back in the day due to the bait and switch. MGS2 - honestly, this is my personal favorite. Overall though, it was enough to get me started and hyped to continue. Gameplay wise it’s fun enough, although performance wasn’t great. The music is just so disappointing compared to the og and later games. The cutscene (which I used to love) are hilariously bad. But playing it this time around, I can definitely see the validity in the common complaints. I was a GameCube fanboy back in the day, so I always dismissed the criticism TTS. But unlike most people I remember loving TTS, so I didn’t mind jumping in.

MGS1 - right off the bat, I have to admit that unfortunately I was only able to play Twin Snakes this time around. Would also love to hear from the members of ERA what some of their favorite moments are! Where would you have liked to have seen the series go if Kojima didn’t leave Konami? And would you be opposed to Konami reviving/continuing the series without his involvement? So, I’m just going to show some quick appreciation for the series after busting out a play through over the past week or so. But you’d be hard pressed to find any other gaming series that reaches the ridiculousness, bombast, and highs of METAL GEAR(?!). I’ve always been a fan of the lore, characters, music, and of course gameplay. Recently there have been a few Metal Gear related threads that have popped up on ERA that re-ignited my interest in the series.
